London Fashion Week 2012

London Fashion Week proved that it grew up this year as the 2012 collection was much more a display of elegant wear, compared to the quirky and emerging styles that usually play out on the catwalks.
Leading the line-up this year were acknowledged fashion maestros including collections by Burberry’s Christopher Bailey, Paul Smith, and Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen. Each of their catwalk selections proved that London has quickly moved into the realm of sophistication and luxury.
Anna Wintour, the Editor-in-Chief for Vogue, stated that she was used to seeing eccentric street chic on the catwalks ofLondon, but now the show has matured into a sexy, polished, and glamorous collection of clothes.
Despite the fact that Mulberry, Burberry, Stella McCartney, and Alexander McQueen all have come out of London, the London Fashion Week is often written about as the quirky sister of the more renowned fashion weeks held in Paris, New York, and Milan.
This year, the hot trends on the catwalks ranged from bright prints to furs to military styles to sequined gowns and shirts. Panels were also very popular at the show with tailored jackets that had panel;ed leather and trench coats that were sheathed in panels from Burberry.
Also predominant on stage was the illusion of the ‘hourglass’ figure which was created by tying in jackets and coats at the waist. McQ also uniquely pulled off the cinch by using a series of colorful bows to pull in the waistlines of their fashions.
